Sumikko Gurashi is a series featuring characters who are a bit negative and feel at ease in the corners, designed in tribute to Japanese people who love corners for no particular reason.

As the catchphrase 'This is where I calm down' suggests, the characters basically compete for the corners of the room in a cute way.

Characters such as a shy, cold-loving polar bear who ran away from the northern sea, a green penguin who is unsure if it's a penguin, a leftover piece of tonkatsu that wasn't eaten because it was 'greasy', a shy and timid cat, all gravitate towards the corner of the room for various reasons. While they are said to compete for the corner, the sight of them trying to occupy the spot when someone is away is endearing.

It celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2022. The movie released in 2021 attracted attention as it was 'Kawaii but moving!', and it significantly increased its popularity and recognition.
