What is TANUKI & KITSUNE?

TANUKI & KITSUNE is an incredibly cute duo that originated from a manga series published on social media.

Originally, these characters were featured in illustrations and 4-panel comics posted on social media by illustrator Atamoto-Sensei. Gradually, they started gaining popularity, and an official website and merchandise began to appear one after another.

The main characters are two animals.

One day, when the Tanuki and Kitsune were still young, a single Kitsune wandered into the mountain where the Tanuki lived.

Taking that as an opportunity, the Kitsune that had wandered in started to go back and forth between Kitsune Mountain and Tanuki Mountain to play.
When the two animals had grown quite a bit, the Tanuki asked the Kitsune in the evening, 'Aren't you going back to the mountain where you live?'

'It's too much trouble, so I've decided to live on this Tanuki Mountain,' the Kitsune replied.

And so began the adorable and relaxed daily lives of the Kitsune and Tanuki living in the mountains, along with their friends.

Tanuki are laid-back and easygoing. They're often seen eating something, which is really cute.

As you can tell from folklore, Kitsune absolutely love Tanuki. They often tease or annoy them, and even get jealous when Tanuki are getting along with others. It's really cute!
