Koupen-chan is a character created by illustrator RURUTEA-Sensei, who is active in Japan.

Originally, the character started from an illustration of a “baby penguin affirming,” which RURUTEA-Sensei posted on social media around 2017.
(A joke that the sounds of the Japanese words for “affirmation” and “emperor” penguin are the same) (At that time, the penguin is praising working people by saying “Great job coming to work!”)

From there, Koupen-chan was born as a “baby emperor penguin that praises hard-working people, no matter how trivial the matter.”

The character is basically childlike and innocent, with a gentle personality that encourages tired or hard-working people, but sometimes points out very mature truths.
According to RURUTEA-Sensei, “there are many of them, and they are everywhere.” They come in color variations like pink and blue, and are gently praising hard-working people all over the world even today.
